We Wish You a Merry Pantry

IT’S A PARTY IN THE PANTRY

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Our homes start to look like mini Santa’s workshops, as a little more commotion than usual begins to take place during the holidays. We all know the behind the scenes craziness that occurs within the walls of our home as we play the role of Santa’s helpers. The holiday cheer comes accompanied with a bit of chaos and if we are keeping it real, it would be merry to have a special space to help hide the extra mess. Well, we have the perfect little room to show you in this blog post!

WINE ORGANIZATION

It would obviously not be the holidays without wine filling the home and our glasses. This pantry is a small, yet unique part of a complete kitchen addition and makeover project. It truly is a Party in the Pantry, welcome to this special flex space! Can we grab you a glass of bubbly for this pantry tour? There are many reasons to celebrate the season with the most special people in our lives. Spending time with loved ones is the perfect reason to pop the champagne! There will be many bottles of bubbly opened throughout the holiday season, a bottle of wine is a popular gift that guests will bring when they come to visit, which means more wine to be stored and well you know…enjoyed! This multi-purpose room was designed to be a place to keep the extra bottles and glasses that you only bring out during special occasions. This pantry feature is a gift to have all year round, but it happens to come in extra handy when you become the holiday host!

UTENSIL UTILIZATION

It would not be the holidays without the festive and fun party dinners. Around this time, more people than usual gather around our tables. More mouths to feed, more tummies to fill, and more people seated around the table calls for more tableware, cups, plates, silverware, and the list goes on and on. If your kitchen has limited cabinet space, it can be a problem for many to store these extra products when they are not in use, which is majority of the time. This pantry serves the purpose of extra storage for your pots and pans, cookware, kitchen appliances, and most importantly your special silver platters and serving trays. The beauty of custom design is the ability to create unique spaces that tailor to each individual’s wants, desires, needs, and dreams. For this particular client, adding built-ins to the home was an important custom feature to include in the design plans, to have extra storage space near the kitchen to keep the clutter away and hidden from the main entertaining areas of the home was an absolute design dream that turned into a reality.

GIFT WRAPPING STATION

It would not be the holidays without gifts filling the home. Giving is truly better than receiving so that means there will be lots of gift wrapping on everyone’s to-do list. Instead of turning your dining room table, master bedroom floor, or kitchen breakfast nook into your dedicated wrapping area of the home, this pantry has you covered, it keeps the clutter away from the high traffic areas of the home. Say goodbye to finding random pieces of tape and tiny scraps of wrapping paper all over the house, this pantry creates a personalized gift wrapping station. This room is definitely not your average “pantry” and for many this is probably the first time seeing a pantry look like this. Natural lighting plus a spacious prep table provides the perfect place to get work done all year round, not just during the holidays. This custom-designed flex space includes custom built-in cabinets to keep cleaning supplies stored, and even mail slots, to handle your typical counter-top clutter. This pantry is a multi-purpose space that serves in the storage department twelve months of the year. It is more than Santa’s workshop during the month of December…but hey, speaking of Santa’s workshop…don’t forget to top all your pretty little packages with a bow this Christmas!

To wrap it up, this pantry serves a big purpose. It is magical what a kitchen remodel can do to a home. Creating extra space not only affects your daily life but all those who step inside your four walls. Customizing and creating a new room to your home will create memories that last a lifetime, especially during the holidays. Cheers to creating your very own merry little pantry!

Room Addition: Master Bedroom Edition

First we listen, then we design.

Thoughtful design starts with intentional listening. Listening is of first and foremost importance because each client of ours has individual and unique dreams, desires, and needs envisioned for their space. This room addition in particular is a very special project of ours to share. This master bedroom was custom designed to accommodate physical disabilities and allow wheelchair accessibility throughout the space, specifically the shower space in this master bathroom. Custom design is thoughtful design and thoughtful design is more than meets the eye, but still pleasing to the eye.

Thoughtful design is personal

To us, thoughtful design is personal where one’s own style should be a reflection in their home surroundings. The client of this space had modern farmhouse style in mind while planning the design details for this master bedroom addition. There are pieces of farm charm in this space from the wood flooring, rustic hardware details, and the barn doors all throughout the room, from the bedroom following into the bathroom.

Thoughtful design is meaningful

To us, thoughtful design is meaningful. This shower was custom designed to be open and barrier-free, allowing easy access for the homeowner. During the design process, extra consideration and care was present when drawing up this shower space, due to the physical disabilities that the client faces on daily basis, there were added features to the shower to provide assistance and ensure safety. A hand shower, grab bars, and an adjustable shower bench were all installed to create a safe shower experience for our client.

Thoughtful design is limitless

To us, thoughtful design is limitless. Design is all in the details, the details are endless and entirely up to the client. From the herringbone tile pattern on the floor to the light fixtures above the vanity, each and every detail was selected with immense consideration to create the space desired by the client. All these design details can seem overwhelming but all the decisions are completely worth it because at the end of the process, the space is truly yours. That is the fun about design, there is no rule book to read, there are no rules to be followed. For example, the light fixtures above the vanity were actually created and intended to be used as outdoor exterior lights but our client found them and fell in love with them so we used them as interior lights. There truly are no limits to thoughtful design.

Do Built-ins Increase the Value of a Home?

built in home wet bar creates personalization

Embrace every corner, eliminate lost space

Embracing every corner of the home is part of the design ethos at Tradition Custom Homes. The beauty of custom design is the ability to maximize and organize every inch of space. A custom home feature that assists in eliminating lost space are built-ins. Built-ins provide three important keys to custom home design: organization, personalization, and harmonization.

Get organized

A hallway with built-in cabinets to create maximum storage.

Built-ins add to the value of the home by enhancing the overall organization of the space. Built-in cabinets maximize and organize the space you have, especially when incorporated into a hallway, as seen above. Timeless custom home features are the ones that add to the practicality and quality of life—making day-to-day ordinary life more orderly. These built-in cabinets create extra storage space in an area of the home that is typically overlooked, the hallway. Dedicating the hallway to be the “drop zone” of the home, where everyone can store his or her personal items from being seen in their very own cubby. These built-in cabinets create less of a mess and are the perfect place for storing backpacks, jackets, lunch boxes, purses, shoes, sports equipment—the list goes on and on.

Personalize your space

personalize your space with a builtin wet bar and builtin bookshelves under staircase

Built-ins add to the value of the home by embellishing the personalization of the space. This built-in home wet bar as well as these built-in bookshelves found beneath the staircase create a sense of class with a touch of fun. This wet bar tucked neatly away under the stairs is truly making the most of this particular corner of the home. A perfect area to entertain your family and guests in, cheers to this custom home feature!

Bring harmony

bring harmony to your space with a built in workspace

Built-ins add to the value of the home by echoing the same space-savvy design principles and creating a sense of harmony. By repeating the principles into the top of the stairs here, it connects all areas from the very bottom of the staircase through the built-in bookshelves and built-in wet bar to the very top of the staircase featuring this built-in workspace. Thoughtful design develops throughout the home—great design creates a flow from room to room, the previous space building upon the next.

So the question still stands…

do built-ins increase the value of a home?

Does the addition of organization, personalization, and harmonization increase the value of a home?

Well, there you have it—time to add this design principle to the plans.
